The Montegrosso earlier
The Semaforo di Monte Grosso was built by the Regia Marina and was already mentioned in the Leopoldino cadastre of 1842.
The buildings were used to monitor maritime traffic and have also housed a meteorological observatory since 1917. The small house that we still call "Casa del Capitano" was the captain's place of residence at that time.
The buildings have been unused since 1960 and restoration work began in 2018.
From ruins to dream holiday destination
In 2017 the construction work on the road and on the "Casa del Capitano" began. The old stone walls have been preserved and restored as much as possible. In the gallery you will find a few direct comparisons of the condition before the restoration and the finished objects.
The first work on the Semaforo, which was completed in 2022, soon followed.
